Old Room

It’s already the end of October 2026, and somehow, I haven’t had a chance to make my official “beginning of the school year” post. Between preparing for multiple school events, waiting on data, participating in professional

development, researching various topics, and setting up my space, this school year has been moving at full speed.

But one thing that continues to be a theme in this chapter of my journey? CREATING SPACE.

When I arrived at my current school in 2024, the transition was anything but simple. During my time at my former school, I packed up my office three different times. So, when I learned I would be moving into a new building without knowing what my office space would look like, let's just say I had a sleepless weekend!

I remember walking into the room, excited about the possibilities and ready to make it my own. I had time to sort through most of my things, put a few items out of sight, and get the space somewhat organized. Somehow, though, there were still plenty of things waiting for a home.

Since I would be using a classroom as my office, I knew I wanted the space to feel different. Rather than creating another traditional classroom or workspace, I wanted a cozy, functional environment that welcomed conversation, connection, and small-group gatherings.

And then there was the window.

That large window was easily my favorite feature of the room.

When news of another office move came, I knew redecorating was inevitable. This time, however, I had a vision. I wanted to make the room the focal point and create a little corner of calm around it.

Not necessarily a place to escape, but a place to pause. A place where shoulders could relax, deep breaths could happen, and everyone could feel comfortable enough to simply be.

So, this school year, my school gets to experience the whimsical side of Counselor Collier!

This space is about more than decorating. It's about creating an environment that feels welcoming, functional, and reflective of the work we do. It's about making room for conversations, connection, creativity, and moments of calm in the middle of busy school days.

So far, the students approve, and apparently, the adults do too! Although a window is absent from this space, who needs one when you can create an environment that feels open to endless possibilities?

Maybe that's the beauty of creating space. Sometimes it's about making room for others, sometimes it's about making room for yourself, and sometimes it's simply about letting a little whimsy and color in.

Here's to another school year of growth, connection, and creating spaces where we can all breathe a little easier.
