I Know Why

I know why writers isolate for months—to create. I also understand why it can be so difficult to sit with your own thoughts and worry that memories will unravel  during the long moments of silence, especially those tough times you still feel shouldn’t have happened, at least not to you.

What I don’t fully understand is why my time alone is often filled with creative procrastination.

I have one task to complete. This marks the beginning of the third year of a great idea that still isn’t finished. I’m working hard. I’m cheering myself on. I’m speaking confidently and affirming words of completion over this project—and still, I can’t quite focus.

Instead, I find myself creating other things, as if they need to come out first.

Deep down, I believe my next work is the piece I've been waiting to share. I have wanted to create something for people like me—those who don't always feel comfortable embracing their creative passion—to remind them that there is a community ready to welcome and support them.
