I often get accused of “feeling” calm to others, but honestly, calm isn’t the word I’d use to describe myself. However, I am very comfortable navigating tough conversations. There’s something about these moments that allows the tension to melt away, and the kid who didn’t want to talk suddenly opens up about what’s really bothering them. When that happens, I listen — not just with my ears, but with my heart.

Strangely enough, I often don’t share the same perspective as parents or instructors, even though I’ve experienced both roles myself. But that’s okay, because each of us comes from a different viewpoint, and that’s what makes these conversations meaningful.

I might not be the warm, bubbly school counselor who puts on puppet shows, but I lead with my heart. I may not always approach every situation with a smile, but I’m always ready to share a laugh with my scholars. Kids are entertaining, and they remind me of the joy in learning and growing.

When challenges arise, I always have a story in mind to help guide a scholar toward a positive plan and a mindset shift. It’s all about finding the right direction — together.
